Volunteering

Bwindi Community Hospital welcomes the opportunity for volunteers to come and share their skills with our staff and for medical and nursing students to learn. We are dedicated to sustainability and to recruiting and retaining the highest quality health workers in Uganda, and for this reason we fill as many of these positions as possible with Ugandans.

Our current placements for overseas medical/nursing/midwifery/laboratory workers and students are full. Please check the website during the spring of 2012 for future updates on this situation.

Scottish Volunteer Doctors to spend 1 year at Bwindi
Scottish Volunteer Doctors
Dr. Kieran and Dr. Sarah in a ward round on Pediatrics

During their stay at Bwindi, they aspire to provide clinical support to Ugandan colleagues, mentorship and facilitate teaching activities. Kieran and Sarah will be working in the Adult In-Patient Department and the Outpatient Department. They will also be involved in a new research project at BCH called the Confidential Inquiry into Child and Maternal Deaths.

The Confidential inquiry research will seek to discover the key factors involved in maternal and under-five child deaths in the three sub-counties served by Bwindi Community Hospital. Once analysis of the data has been completed, the research team will partner with communities with high mortality rates to find ways to reduce future maternal deaths locally. The ambitious couple is committed in making a contribution towards the development of a community based mental health services, in addition to supporting family planning capacity.

Dr. Kieran and Dr. Sarah hope that, their projects will help to establish a relationship with the RCGP, enabling future general practitioners to volunteer at BCH and support Ugandan staff.

When asked about his experiences at BCH Kieran said "we are just so happy to be here, to be part of such a talented and dedicated group of people who are serving their fellow Ugandans by providing quality healthcare. We have had a wonderful induction and are keen to work with our new Ugandan friends and colleagues. If you want to find out more please feel free to contact us on kieranandsarah09@gmail.com

Bwindi Community Hospital is very grateful to Sarah and Kieran for their support for the organization and the entire community at large.
