Job title:  Human Resource Manager
Reports to:  Executive Director
Location:  Bwindi Community Hospital
Working time:  Full time


Work with the health care team at Bwindi Community Hospital (BCH) towards meeting the Objectives of the Organisation.

Job Summary:

To work in partnership with Hospital employees to provide specialist comprehensive, high quality advice and guidance on HR issues in line with Hospital policy and good practice.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Principle Hospital Administrator in the creation and implementation of an appropriate Human Resource Strategy, in line with the Hospital’s strategic plan
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to attract and retain staff
  • Lead and co-ordinate special projects that will enhance the professional standing of HR and contribute to the successful achievement of the organisation’s strategic plans
  • Promote equal opportunities in accordance with Hospital policy and good practice
  • Work with Heads of Department to develop and implement mechanisms for performance management and review, to enable the effective setting of objectives and appraisal of progress at team/individual level
  • Develop and maintain workforce communication processes with Heads of Department and each month report of the staff turnover factor, number of vacancies unfilled and the induction rate for new staff
  • Ensure that processes are established, monitored and reviewed which support the retention of staff
  • Identify and promote new ways of working to more effectively utilise the Hospital’s workforce
  • Design and deliver Hospital training programmes
  • Advice managers on the interpretation of terms and conditions of employment ensuring compliance with the organisation’s policies to ensure processes are fair, equitable and promote good practice
  • Draft and review HR policies and procedures relating to the employment of staff and act as a lead on specific projects
  • Engage in the range of performance management activities with own team (performance appraisal, development and training planning etc.)
  • Actively contribute to successful team working of the HR team and the Administration team
  • Proactively inform all Heads of Department about all aspects of human resource management that are likely to impact people management within the short, medium and long term

  • To comply with all Hospital Policies and Procedures
  • To perform duties to the highest standard with particular regard to effective and efficient use of resources, maintaining quality and contributing to improvements
  • Perform any other duties that may be required from time to time

Person Specification:
  • Degree holder in Human Resource Management
  • Minimum Experience of 2 years
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Excellent communication skills
