MEET THE BWINDI COMMUNITY HOSPITAL TEAM
Bwindi Community Hospital employs 121 high quality Ugandan staff, 70% of whom are from the local district. Our staff members are doctors, nurses, information technology experts, lab technicians, midwifes, expert patients, logistics managers, accountants, and administrators, but most importantly, they are people who are interested in the improvement of this community. They go above and beyond what is required of them each and every day because they genuinely care about their clients. Bwindi Community Hospital is proud of having recruited and retained some of the best health workers in Uganda, and we consider ourselves as a model organisation in this regard.
Our staff members are our most valuable resource. Without them we would not be able to achieve any of the work that we do. But it is difficult to get good quality Ugandan health workers to work in rural areas; doctors and nurses tend to move towards cities and even toward the West in search of work. Bwindi Community Hospital is proud that by creating a good environment for staff - always paying salaries on time, focusing on teaching, promoting staff who perform well, and investing in local people - we have been able to recruit health workers who want to come here and want to stay. The World Health Organisation describes there being a global health workforce crisis (read more.) We intend to stay one step ahead in Bwindi by maintaining our scholarship programme that encourages donors to support the opportunity for local people to further their education. The Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to those who show a desire to help others and are prepared to commit their future to the Hospital.
We continue to invest in our staff by providing them with lunch and organising team-building away days and the staff organise for themselves football, volleyball, and basketball matches, as well as movie nights twice a week. Our goal is to recruit and retain the best available staff at every level of the organisation.
